System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition was announced. We’ve only seen a few small snippets of gameplay but, considering this is one of the most popular PC games of all time, we have high hopes for the port. Some new details about the Enhanced Edition of System Shock 2 have emerged, and they point towards some improvements to co-op and strong mod support. System Shock 2 VR was first revealed in early 2021, with Nightdive revealing it will bring the entire game into PC VR headsets, complete with motion controls and support for co-op and cross-play with the Enhanced Edition. Play with up to three friends in multiplayer co-op (co-op works in Windows only) System Shock 2 is a genre defining experience that established innovative game-play mechanics that are a staple of the FPS and RPG genre today. It sounds like we won’t see the VR version until both of those are out the door, then. The developer plans to release both around the same time, with the remake currently in the polishing stages, though there’s still not a full release window. The Enhanced Edition is being released in addition to the complete remake for the original System Shock, so there’s a lot going on at Nightdive right now. Apparently I confused it with one of the other System Shocks currently in the works-either the remake of the original, which Nightdive is also working on, or System Shock 3, being developed by Otherside Entertainment. Nightdive Studios announced last week that it's working on an enhanced version of System Shock 2, which came as a shock to me because I thought it had been announced months ago.
